Building Directory Widget

The Building Directory widget allows you to create a database of the listings you want to show on your screen. You will also need to add the Building Directory widget from the Store to use as part of your Layout design. The steps below walk through both creating your database and setting up the widget to the Layout Designer.

Create Your Directory Listings Using the Product Library

1) Click on the Products icon from the navigation:
2) Click on the Upload or Download Products tab at the top of the page:
3) Click on the Download button to download the Excel spreadsheet. Save the spreadsheet where you can easily find it and open the Excel spreadsheet.
The building widget uses 4 specific columns in the spreadsheet:
  • Name – This will be the name of the listing.
  • Category – The widget uses the Category to identify active listings. Some accounts might have ‘Business’ listings versus ‘Residential’ listings on multiple directories at a location. The Category provides a filter.
  • Enabled – A ‘Yes’ should be added to ensure that listings are active. If set to ‘No’ or left blank in the spreadsheet, the listing will not show in the widget.
  • Description – This is where you can enter the room or suite number, or any other text you want to display to the right of the listing Name.

(Other columns in the spreadsheet screenshot below have been hidden to show the columns needed)

4) Once you’ve entered your data in these columns, save your Excel spreadsheet and upload it back to the Upload or Download Products tab:
5) You should now see all of your directory listings in alphabetical order. From here, you can click on any of your listings to change the Name, Category or Description.
6) You can also use the ‘Create New’ button at the top of the page to create new listings (the spreadsheet is mainly good for adding/changing multiple listings at once).

Add the Building Directory Widget from the Store

To use the Building Directory widget, we’ll first have to add the widget to our Asset Library from the Store.
1) Click on the Store icon from the navigation.
Search for “directory” and click on the ‘Next‘ icon to add the widget to your Asset Library.
2) Next, go to Layouts from the navigation. Using the ‘Create New’ button to create a new layout, or open the Designer for an existing layout.
3) From the toolbar, click on the ‘Add Widget’ icon:
4) Select the Building Directory widget.
5) Once the zone has been added to the layout, use your mouse to drag the edges to increase the widget to your desired height and width.
6) Click on the Properties icon at the bottom left corner of the widget to open the settings.

The Building Directory widget has an interactive search feature for touchscreens. Please note the correct settings below if you are using a touchscreen directory or a non touch directory.

Settings for Non Touchscreen (Display Listings Only, No Interactive Touch)

  • Set Font Style for the Directory – This is where you will create and apply a Font Style. Please also see: Font Styles
  • This allows you to filter out which Product Category – The widget uses the Category to identify active listings. Some accounts might have ‘Business’ listings versus ‘Residential’ listings on multiple directories at a location. The Category provides a filter.
  • Show A-Z Quick Navigation? – This should be set to ‘N’ for no.
  • Show search box  – This should be set to ‘N’ for no.
  • Set how many companies to show per page – If you have many listings and would like the widget to scroll between multiple pages of listings, you can give this setting a number.
  • Set how many rows to show – If you have a lot of listings, you can define how many rows you would like to show in the layout.
  • Enter the number of columns of building directory data to show – This is especially helpful if you have many listings and might need to create multiple columns in your layout for all listings to fit.
  • Show Page Counter – This shows ‘Back’ and ‘Next’ buttons at the bottom left of the widget. This can be set to ‘N’ to not show this on a non interactive screen.
  • Hex codes can be used to visually separate rows.
  • Seconds per page before moving to next page – If using Set how many companies to show per page (above), you can use this to set the number of seconds before the page changes.

Settings for Interactive Touchscreens

  • Set Font Style for the Directory – This is where you will create and apply a Font Style. Please also see: Font Styles
  • This allows you to filter out which Product Category – The widget uses the Category to identify active listings. Some accounts might have ‘Business’ listings versus ‘Residential’ listings on multiple directories at a location. The Category provides a filter.

Leave this option blank if you would like all listings to show by default.
  • Set how many rows to show – If you have a lot of listings, you can define how many rows you would like to show in the layout.

  • Seconds per page before moving to next page – If using Set how many companies to show per page (above), you can use this to set the number of seconds before the page changes.

Scheduling the Layout to Players

Once your Directory Layout design has been built, you will need to Schedule the Layout to your Player(s).

There are two ways of scheduling your layouts. You can schedule a layout to a Player directly from the layout, or you can use the Schedule module from the Home page.

Scheduling from the Layout Designer
